Lorenzo has always used photography to record daily life. As part of his ongoing research, he is currently working on a series of images documenting plant matter.
LORENZO TONTI
Lorenzo Tonti was born in Italy and grew up in Switzerland, living in Bern, Zurich, and Lausanne. He studied graphic design and photography, initially in Strasbourg and Lille in France, and completed his formal education in Lausanne, Switzerland.
He has lived in Ireland since 1984 when he came to work at Kilkenny Design Workshops, a government agency for the development of design in Ireland. He has always used photography to record daily life. He currently lectures in both photography and graphic design at Technological University of the South East, Ireland. He has always taken photographs as a means of documenting daily life. A longterm, keen supporter of the slow food movement, food is a passion and constant subject of daily image making, feeding (himself, and) his Instagram posts with deliciousness.
This series of photographs were taken during travels from 2019 to 2023, some are everyday places local to Tonti, some are places visited while travelling. Exploring the complexities of reflections, if we look closely we discover many details in the ‘landscapes’. Remnants of text, warning signs, messages, familiar products, catch the eye - maybe not on the first look, but the second or third or fourth - reflecting Tonti’s interest in designed objects and how they blend in the business of spaces.
