Following her studies in applied arts and then visual arts, she qualified from the Duperre School of Applied Arts in Paris with a Diplome des Metiers D’Arts, specialising in craft ceramics. Spending a year in Chine, training in wheel throwing skills, returning to Nantes to set up her own studio in 2018.

Working predominantly in white porcelain, Louise makes a range of pinch pots which she then decorates with her own inimitable style of handdrawn objects and characters. Stories run around the vessel shapes, sometimes with surprises inside and underneath, often inventing new words to suggest a new function or place. She likes to imagine amusing and poetic drawings, her work resembling her sketchbooks of cartoons and stories.

These are tactile notebooks to drink our coffee in.

Louise’s atelier is located in the Agronaute, a large urban farm, with buildings combining food growing, a plant nursery and other small businesses. It is here in this green environment that she also offers ceramic classes and workshops.

Louise Ferchaud is a ceramicist in Nantes, in the Pays de la Loire, north-western France.
