KIMBERLEY ANNE WOOLLISCROFT

Kimberley Anne Woolliscroft is a freelance textile designer and artist. Since her graduation, BA (Hons) in Printed Textile Design for Birmingham City University, she has been developing original artwork, to be translated into textile design. Her ‘handwritings’ are very diverse, alternating from highly detailed, carefully observed, and sometimes dense ‘biro’ studies, to the playful, colourful, and often naïve, narrative compositions. The intensity and relative naivety of the work manifests her highly personal aesthetic, resulting in a body of work that could sit within the realm of ‘Outsider’ Art. With the transition of her imagery into Textile Design, her work has been highly sought after by both high street and high end fashion design houses.

In the arena of textile design, within a studio context, it is important to continually explore new methods and ways of working, to diversify the handwriting, to ‘switch it up’ regularly. Kimberley Anne aims to surprise and delight with every new body of work. Her work encompasses detailed illustration, colourful collage, paintings in acrylic – all on paper grounds, most recently, a series of Lino cuts. The artwork stands alone, beyond the textile arena; it is a natural progression to show this highly original body of work within a gallery setting.

Born and raised in the West Midlands, Kimberley specialised in Printed Textile Design at Birmingham City University (BCU), graduating in 2014.

Kimberley has a love of nature, a keen eye, unusual visual recall, a strong work ethic and creative curiosity. Combined together these attributes allow her to illustrate nature and narrative in a particularly fluid, voluminous, diverse and playful way.
